WRITING FOR CRITICAL CERAMICS

Critical Ceramics is commited to publishing the widest range of articles relevant to the contemporary ceramic artist, including those on creativity, aesthetics, contemporary art, culture, artistic movements, art criticism, and individual artists. To this end, Critical Ceramics is always looking for new writers and critics.

Critical Ceramics does not represent any set viewpoint. In fact, authors arguing opposing view points are sought by Critical Ceramics. Articles which take a strong position and defend it well are encouraged. Of course, all submissions are subject to the editorial process.

Each submission must include the writer's name, address, daytime phone number, and email address. Emailed contributions are preferred. Alternatively, disks may be mailed if this will not hamper the timeliness of the article. Each submission should include a brief description of the writer's background, relevant url's, and 2 images, if desired, to be included in Critical Ceramics' contributors' gallery.

WORDS

In general, Critical Ceramics publishes two types of articles. The first type is a feature article of 1000 to 1500 words in length. An article of this kind should explore in some depth the major points of the topic. Feature articles may be on artists, new genres of work, or particular aesthetic view points for example. The author should supply 5 to 10 images in support of the article.

The second type of article is a review. These are shorter articles, approximately 500 words, critiquing an exhibition, book, or video. Any exhibition held in a legitimate, publicly accessible context may be reviewed. Critical Ceramics would like to post reviews within days of the show opening. Reviews are featured for the duration of the exhibition. After the show closes, reviews will be indexed and maintained as a reference archive. Accompanying each review should be 3 to 5 supporting images.

IMAGES

In almost all instances, images are necessary to properly represent the ideas in the article or review. If at all possible, each image shouid be a 24-bit (16 million color) uncompressed JPEG file no larger than 500 pixels in either dimension. If electronic files are not possible, slides or transparencies may be submitted for scanning.

COMPENSATION

Critical Ceramics compensates writers and reviewers for each work published. Authors and artists retain their copyrights to their work, but allow Critical Ceramics to publish it in perpetuity.

Interested? Please email the editor with your idea.
